If you found a surprise in your search results today it’s because Google turned the table on Topeka.
Other companies pulled spoofs of their own,
April Fools Day.com adds to their list, (7 years of spoofing),
and Google Blogspot explains.
Nice job!

Here’s a poem to represent my sentiments about this April Foogle, I mean Google!
I’m just saying….I’ll be glad when Google stops “googling around” and Topeka goes back to where it was found!
How can you live in Kansas
and expect anything to change?
How can you seek new answers
When you ride the endless plain?
I’d sit astride my pinto nag
to survey my sprawling acres,
My back would slope, my knees would sag,
I’d have no truck with “fakers.”
I’d breathe fresh air and boldly dare
To rule my sprawling range,
How can you live in Kansas
And expect anything to change?

No… Topeka, in Kansas, renamed itself Google, so Google returned the honor

Any corporation the size of Google, er, Topeka that can have a little fun once in a while and even make fun of itself has to be one super company. Nice Job, Topeka!

Awesome April Fool’s Day Joke and great publicity for Kansas! Maybe now we can be known for something other than the the American Classic “Wizard of Oz”. As a fellow Topekan, it has been quite fun being known as Google, KS and it is quite a clever turning of the tables by Googgle as us “Topekans liked seeing our city’s name when we googled today!

I was born and raised in Topeka as were four generations of my ancestors. We wouldn’t change our cities name, which, by the way, means “little balls of fuzzy stuff” in a local Indian dialect, unless there was a considerable amount of money involved. We are proud of our heritage and would hold out for a respectable price.
