My cardiologist has succeeded in convincing me to eschew red meat. Mostly. I still sneak the occasional gyro or grab an Italian sausage sandwich with grilled onions and peppers during fall visits to the county fair.
I’ve tried, honestly I have, to cultivate an appreciation for vegetable based meat substitutions but have mostly been disappointed with the products I’ve encountered.
However, as I read this post by Verena von Pfetten and saw the pictures of the food, I began to have hope that a viable alternative really does exist. It’s called Gardien. The company also produces a faux chicken and faux beef product that looks like the real McCoy.
I’m going to purchase some and play with it to see what I can produce.
Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.
“Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I’m halfway through my fishburger and I realize, Oh my God. I could be eating a slow learner. ”
~Lynda Montgomery
One farmer says to me, “You cannot live on vegetable food solely, for it furnishes nothing to make the bones with;” and so he religiously devotes a part of his day to supplying himself with the raw material of bones; walking all the while he talks behind his oxen, which, with vegetable-made bones, jerk him and his lumbering plow along in spite of every obstacle.

I read about Gardien Products in Peta’s Magazine and now here on line but have yet to find where they can be purchased.
