This is the season for county fairs, an excuse to indulge myself with an Italian Sausage sandwich with grilled peppers & onions, corn dogs, and Philly Cheese Steak.

What a great atmosphere; the vegetable and fruits grown and displayed along with pie competitions always entertain. I can’t pass up the tractor and horse pulls or the 4-H tent either. The fiddlers’ competition is a must-do.

One of my favorite things at the county fair is the sheep dog exibition. They’re such clever animals and seem to derive a great deal of pleasure from tending the sheep. A good friend in Seattle has recently added a small flock of chickens to her yard and her Blue Heeler, Skipper, has a great time rounding up the birds and putting them back in the coop – smiling all the while.

So go play at a fair- with all the sinful and forbidden food and have fun !!

A note:

I just added this link to the Nifty Food Sites part of the blogroll. I am always on the lookout for church and neighborhood festivals for authentic home cooked ethnic food. They often are a microcosm of culture, music and crafts
