			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My cardiologist has succeeded in convincing me to eschew red meat.  Mostly.   I still sneak the occasional gyro or grab an Italian sausage sandwich with grilled onions and peppers during fall visits to the county fair.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve tried,  honestly I have,  to cultivate an appreciation for vegetable based meat substitutions but have mostly been disappointed with the products I&#8217;ve encountered.</p>
<p>However,  as I read <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/verena-von-pfetten/huffpost-oasis-meet-the-c_b_121942.html" title="drool-worthy photos" target="_blank">this post</a> by Verena von Pfetten  and saw the pictures of the food,  I began to have hope that a viable alternative really does exist.  It&#8217;s called <a href="http://www.gardein.com/" target="_blank">Gardien</a>.  The company also produces a faux chicken and faux beef product that<em> <a href="http://www.gardein.com/our_products/food_service" target="_blank">looks</a></em> like the real McCoy.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m going to purchase some and play with it to see what I can produce.</p>
