POPCORN SCHOOL

You aughta know by now that taking shortcuts is a recipe for trouble and popcorn is no exception according to Lou Bendrick, <(read this). I just can’t imagine buying the microwave popcorn packages myself. I get concerned about the hydrogenated part of the nutrition label. Actually, I don’t eat popcorn for nutrition, I eat it because I heard it’s “brain food” and I’m pretty sure I’m feeling smarter.

Elementary

Find yourself a good heavy pot with a lid, cast iron is perfect, add oil, corn and pop it.

Secondary Ed.

Google “homemade flavored popcorn” and you’ll have days of fun looking through that.

Post-Grad

There are some daring ideas at Serious Eats that will germinate a kernel of creativity in your popcorn soul. Read it, too. My personal favorite is the garam masala flavor, but the following caught my eye, too, “Melted butter with soy sauce incorporated in – then toss it with brewers yeast. The hippies from Vermont taught me that in college. I used to even make a meal out of it!“ - For some reason those hippies know how to satisfy a craving for munchies.

********************************

“I live for meetings with men in suits. I love them because I know they had a really boring week, and I walk in there with my orange velvet leggings, and drop popcorn in my cleavage and then fish it out and eat it. I like that. I know I’m entertaining them, and I know that they know.”

Madonna (Actress and Singer, b.1958)
